Pain Reprocessing Therapy

Updating the brain's prediction of danger to safety.

REORIENT

Your pain is real.

Pain is shaped by the way the brain and nervous system interpret information from the body. Sometimes those systems learn to become overly protective, continuing to produce pain even when the body is not in danger.

Pain Reprocessing Therapy helps the brain learn a different response.

What is Pain Reprocessing Therapy?

Pain Reprocessing Therapy, or PRT, is an evidence-based approach for chronic and neuroplastic pain. It works by helping the brain reinterpret sensations with less fear and a greater sense of safety.

In therapy, we look at patterns in your symptoms, how fear and attention may be affecting pain, and how your nervous system responds when symptoms appear.

HOW PRT WORKS

01

Pain Education

Understanding how the brain and nervous system can learn and maintain pain, and identifying whether your symptoms show patterns associated with neuroplastic pain.

02

Somatic Tracking

Paying attention to sensations with curiosity while bringing in messages of safety, helping the brain experience those sensations differently.

03

Safety & Exposure

Gradually approaching movements, activities, and sensations that have become associated with danger so your nervous system can learn that they are safe.

PRT can help with:

+Back pain

+Neck pain

+Migraines and headaches

+Fibromyalgia

+Pelvic pain

+Burning mouth syndrome

+TMJ

+IBS and persistent gastrointestinal symptoms

+Chronic fatigue

+Tinnitus

+Persistent pain that continues despite medical evaluation or treatment

Creating More Freedom Around Pain

The focus of PRT is not simply changing the way you think about pain. It is creating new experiences of safety that can reduce fear, change the brain’s predictions about danger, and help you rebuild trust in your body.

For some people, this can mean significantly reducing or eliminating neuroplastic pain. For others, it can mean less fear around symptoms, greater freedom of movement, and more room to participate in life.
