Understanding Trauma and Its Impact
Trauma can leave deep emotional and physical imprints that touch every part of life. Healing from trauma is not about forgetting what happened, but about helping your mind and body come back into balance. Therapy offers a safe, steady space to process painful experiences, release what has been held inside, and reconnect with a sense of safety and self-trust.
Understanding Trauma and Its Impact
Trauma results from experiences that overwhelm the ability to cope, such as abuse, accidents, natural disasters, or loss. The effects of trauma can be complex and long-lasting, influencing mental, emotional, and physical health. Common symptoms include anxiety, depression, flashbacks, hypervigilance, and difficulty trusting others.
Recognizing the signs of trauma is the first step toward healing. Trauma therapy focuses on addressing these symptoms by helping you process experiences, regulate your nervous system, and develop coping tools that support long-term well-being.

How I Approach Trauma Therapy
My approach is integrative, combining evidence-based and body-based methods that support the nervous system’s natural capacity to heal.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they no longer feel as vivid or distressing. Through bilateral stimulation such as gentle eye movements or tapping, your brain can integrate past experiences and release the emotional charge that keeps you stuck in old patterns.
Somatic Experiencing
Somatic Experiencing focuses on the body’s role in trauma recovery. It supports you in noticing and releasing the survival energy that can keep your system in fight, flight, or freeze. Over time this work helps restore a felt sense of safety and presence.

Narrative and Relational Therapy
The stories we tell ourselves shape how we understand our lives and relationships. Through a narrative and relational lens, therapy becomes a space to make meaning, explore identity, and reconnect with your strength and authenticity.
Together these approaches help integrate what has felt fragmented, bringing together insight, emotion, and embodied experience so that healing can unfold from the inside out.
Choosing the Right Trauma Therapy Approach
Finding the right approach to trauma therapy depends on many factors, including the nature of your experiences, your personal preferences, and the therapist’s expertise. Healing looks different for everyone, and there is no one-size-fits-all method.
Here are a few things to consider when deciding what feels right for you:
Assess your needs. Reflect on which symptoms or challenges feel most difficult right now and what you hope to gain from therapy.
Explore different options. Learn about approaches such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and narrative therapy to see what resonates with you.
Talk with a therapist. A consultation can help you get a sense of whether the therapist’s approach feels like a good fit.
Be open to adjustment. Healing is a process, and as you grow, your needs may shift over time.
I use a blend of EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and narrative therapy, integrating each approach to meet the unique needs of the individual I am working with. My goal is to create a safe, collaborative space where both your mind and body are included in the healing process, allowing deeper relief and lasting change.
Supporting Healing Beyond Therapy
Therapy is a vital part of trauma recovery, but healing also involves daily choices and self-care practices. Here are some strategies to support your process in addition to therapy:
Build a support network: Connect with trusted friends, family, community, or support groups.
Practice mindfulness: Techniques like meditation and deep breathing can reduce stress.
Engage in physical activity: Exercise helps regulate mood and improve overall well-being.
Maintain a healthy routine: Consistent sleep, nutrition, and daily structure support stability.
Set boundaries: Learn to say no and protect your emotional space.

Moving Forward with Hope
Healing after trauma is not about erasing the past. It is about reclaiming your life and rediscovering your capacity to feel, connect, and grow. With the right therapeutic support and compassionate guidance, recovery is possible.Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, and every step forward is progress.
