Somatic Therapy

Finding Safety Within

What Is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic therapy is a body-based approach to healing that works with the nervous system to release unresolved stress and trauma. Instead of focusing only on thoughts or emotions, somatic therapy helps people tune into physical sensations and patterns that may be connected to past experiences. By supporting the body’s natural ability to regulate and settle, somatic therapy can create lasting relief from the effects of trauma and chronic stress.

How Does Somatic Therapy Work?

When overwhelming events occur, the nervous system sometimes cannot fully process them, leaving behind stuck survival energy. This can lead to symptoms such as hypervigilance, fatigue, muscle tension, chronic pain, or dissociation. Somatic therapy gently helps the body complete and release these unfinished responses. Through slowing down, building awareness of sensations, and moving between activation and settling, the nervous system can gradually return to balance.

Key Components of Somatic Therapy

  • Tracking and building awareness of bodily sensations

  • Releasing stored survival energy safely and gradually

  • Restoring regulation to the nervous system

  • Supporting connection between body and mind

  • Encouraging presence and resilience in daily life
